Background Check & Training Requirements
- I agree to complete a DGSA approved background check prior to the start of the season as a condition of coaching or volunteering.
- I agree to make every reasonable effort to attend the required two‑hour coach training session held before the season begins.
Commitment to Youth Athletes
I understand that coaching youth athletes carries significant responsibility and that my behavior directly impacts their experience. I commit to supporting and protecting the following rights of every young athlete:
- The right to have fun while participating in sports.
- The right to participate regardless of skill level.
- The right to play at a level appropriate to each child’s age, maturity, and ability.
- The right to qualified and responsible adult leadership.
- The right to be treated as a child, not as a miniature adult.
- The right to share in decision‑making related to their sport experience.
- The right to a safe, healthy, and positive environment.
- The right to proper preparation and instruction.
- The right to equal opportunity to strive for success.
- The right to be treated with dignity and respect.
Coach Code of Ethics
As a DGSA coach, I commit to the following standards of conduct:
- I will treat all athletes, officials, opposing coaches, parents, and administrators with respect and dignity.
- I will work to continually improve my knowledge of fundamental skills, teaching methods, evaluation techniques, and coaching strategies.
- I will learn and uphold the rules of the sport and the objectives of the DGSA program.
- I will respect the authority of game officials and support their efforts to ensure fair and impartial competition.
- I will learn the strengths and needs of each athlete and place them in situations that promote confidence, development, and success.
- I will run practices and games that provide meaningful opportunities for all athletes to participate and improve.
- I will communicate clearly with athletes and parents regarding expectations, responsibilities, and team values.
- I will cooperate fully with DGSA leadership in enforcing rules, policies, and best practices, and I will report any concerns or violations.
- I will prioritize the physical and emotional well‑being of my athletes above all competitive or adult interests.
- I will not tolerate any form of abuse—physical, verbal, emotional, ethical, or sexual—and will immediately report any suspected abuse to the appropriate authorities.
- I will not use tobacco, alcohol, or illegal substances in the presence of athletes.
