14U Tryouts

The 14U DGSA tryouts will only be open to players who will be attending East or West De Pere High School. This does allow for a broader group of girls to try out for the team, but it does NOT guarantee that DGSA will support a team at this level. There are several factors outstanding that will determine our final decision, including:

• Coaching staff will need to be determined. We would need to rely on several volunteer coaches from the community (most likely parents) in order to field a team. Being a coach does not guarantee a spot on the team. Prior coaching experience is a must.
• Until we hold the tryouts, we are unsure how many (if any) pitchers or catchers will be looking to join the team. In order to have a successful season, the team would need 2-3 pitchers with several years of experience, and 2-3 catchers. Without those positions filled, we would be unable to field a team. 

Regardless of the number of girls that try out, we would still most likely only be able to field one team. There will be cuts and we would be looking to have a team of 10-12 girls. We want to give girls a place to play competitive softball at the 14U level, but we also want to make sure that it is an enjoyable experience for both the players and their families. 

Tryout Details:

• Primary Session: Monday 7/20/26 at 5:30-7:00; Pitchers & Catchers 7:00-7:30
• Makeup Only: Monday 7/29/26 at 7:30-8:30
• Location: Optimist Park Field 3 (07/20) and Field 2 (07/29)
• Registration and warmups: 5:00 on 07/20 and 7:00 on 07/29
• Eligibility: Must be 13 or 14 years old as of September 1, 2026
• (12U players wanting to tryout will be at the discretion of the family)

Final team announcements will be made as soon as possible - ideally no later than July 31st.

WHAT CRITERIA WILL EACH PLAYER BE EVALUATED ON:

• Speed/Base Running
• Throwing form, power, and speed
• Infield and Outfield skills
• Hitting/Bunting
• Attitude/Hustle/Focus/Leadership
• Pitching speed, form, control, accuracy, and pitch variety
• Catching stance, agility, framing, footwork, and throws to 2nd base

HOW ARE THE EVALUATORS SELECTED:

Our goal is to provide the girls with a fair and unbiased tryout experience. While DGSA board members may be there to help run drills, they will not be acting as evaluators. We work with the two varsity program’s coaching staff, as well as other softball organizations, to find evaluators with little to no experience with the girls. Each evaluator is very experienced and knowledgeable in the sport of softball. They each bring a different perspective when assessing the players.
